Our operations span onshore, coastal swamp and shallow offshore environments, each requiring a different approach to risk. Health and safety are therefore built into how we plan, execute and review work across the asset lifecycle.
We focus on preventing harm, managing major operational risks, maintaining the integrity of our wells and facilities, and ensuring that our workforce and contractors are prepared to respond effectively to changing conditions and emergencies.
Health, Safety & Environmental Stewardship
Safety in Every Phase of Work
Safe work starts with understanding the task, the hazards involved and the controls required before execution begins. As conditions change, those controls are reviewed and adjusted to keep the work within safe operating limits.
We pay particular attention to higher-risk activities, including drilling and well operations, lifting, work at height, confined space entry, energy isolation, road and marine transportation and contractor-led work.
We expect everyone working on our assets to identify hazards early, raise concerns promptly and stop work where the necessary safeguards are not in place.
Process Safety & Asset Integrity
We manage process safety by understanding major operational risks and protecting the integrity of our wells, facilities, pipelines and equipment.
This includes technical risk assessment, inspection and maintenance, operating procedures, management of change and readiness reviews before start-up and commissioning.
As our assets and operating conditions evolve, we review and strengthen these controls to ensure they remain effective.
Health & Workforce Wellbeing
The health of our people is an important part of safe and reliable operations.
We support workforce wellbeing through fitness-for-work requirements, occupational health, workplace hygiene, medical preparedness and the management of occupational exposures, considering the specific demands of field-based and remote working environments.
Emergency Preparedness
Emergency preparedness is tailored to the specific risks and operating conditions at each location. Response plans are supported by regular training, drills and exercises to ensure teams are ready to act when required.
We use lessons from incidents, near misses and emergency exercises to strengthen our plans, improve coordination and build more effective response capability.
Contractor Assurance
Contractors are integral to the delivery of our operations and are expected to work to the same safety standards as our own teams.
We assess competence, equipment, task-specific risks and required controls before mobilisation, and continue to monitor performance throughout execution to ensure work remains safe and compliant.
Accountability & Continuous Improvement
Leaders are accountable for establishing expectations and providing the resources required to manage risk.
Inspections, audits, investigations, performance reviews and lessons learned support continuous improvement as our portfolio develops.
Protecting the Environment Across the Asset Lifecycle
Environmental considerations are integrated into the planning, development and operation of our upstream assets.
Our approach is focused on preventing pollution, managing environmental impacts responsibly and meeting applicable regulatory requirements throughout the asset lifecycle.
Our Areas of Focus
Spill Prevention & Response
We focus on preventing loss of containment from wells, pipelines, storage systems and production facilities through appropriate operating controls, inspection, maintenance and response planning. Where an incident occurs, response arrangements are designed to support rapid containment, recovery, reporting and remediation.
Waste Management
Waste generated from drilling, construction, maintenance and production activities is identified, segregated, stored, transported and disposed of through approved processes. Particular attention is given to hazardous waste, oily waste, chemicals, used lubricants and other materials requiring controlled handling.
Water & Effluent Management
We manage water use and effluent from our operations through appropriate treatment, monitoring and discharge controls. Operational activities are planned to minimise unnecessary water use and to protect surrounding surface and groundwater resources.
Emissions Management
We monitor and manage emissions associated with drilling, power generation, production activities, equipment and transportation. Our approach includes maintaining equipment appropriately, monitoring relevant sources and identifying opportunities to reduce avoidable emissions as operations develop.
Environmental Monitoring
Environmental performance is supported by routine monitoring of relevant parameters across our operating locations. This may include air quality, water quality, soil conditions, noise and other indicators required by permits, project commitments and regulatory obligations.
Environmental Stewardship
Responsible Environmental Management
Environmental controls are integrated into project planning, construction, commissioning and operations and are reviewed as activities and risks change.
Where specialist support is required, we engage qualified environmental service providers for activities such as sampling, laboratory analysis, waste treatment, disposal and environmental studies. Records, permits, monitoring results and close-out actions are maintained to support compliance, assurance and continuous improvement.
